Object for movement, light and sound (Objekt za pokret, svjetlo i zvuk)
installation2022
in collaboration w. Joonas Parviainen (FIN)
Modular site-specific camera obscura objects, built in-situ, shapes and dimensions varie depending on the location. Sound is the local sound of the surrounding environment.
Here presented are three objects made of wood, black fabric and paus paper constructed and produced for the site of Art Workshop Lazareti in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Instalaltion was made in September 2022.
This installation in the form of three large camera obscura contemplation objects deals with the questions about our perception, environment, still and moving media as are photography and film. As objects in between moving and still image (not-yet-fixed photography and not-yet-recorded film) — they are spaces of possibility of an image, rather than final image itself or Platonic shadow cave — they are conceptual film-objects. In that sense, we are treating this installation as the site-specific and locally made scenography for happening and the space of live process, rather than the (historical) camera-object. Everything that passes throug (the lens of) it, no mater if it is a landscape or a (human) being, becomes an abstract motiv, rather than hyper-real (photo)copy of the self.
The non-processed sound of the location, is the only untreated medium of the installation. We see it more as the given condition, live narrative, but condesed and ‘sharpened’ by the vague shapes and the images on which our focus is on. With that said, our camera obscuras really became the objects for movement, light and sound that are sharpening our perception with more or less blurry contours, unlike its historical “ancestor” — the tool for copying the reality.
In the context of Nives Sertić works, this installation is considered the extention of The Landscapes project.
